Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory, the author analyses the translation strategies employed in the translation of Comfort Woman written by a Korean American writer, Nora Keller. The Functional Equivalence lays emphasis on the natural equivalence, that is to say, the translation does not seek the rigid literally equivalence, but focuses on the functional equivalence in two languages in terms of meaning and style.Comfort Woman is a narrative novel, which tells of a story between a self dislocation Korean mother, a comfort woman in Japanese camp and her American daughter. Her daughter did not know the mother's experience as a comfort woman and gradually they understand each other. Based on Functional Equivalence, the translator endeavors to achieve the equivalence with the ST from the lexical, syntactic and textual. In the translation process, the translator overcomes many difficulties, for instance, some names with local color are translated by transliteration. Some long sentences are translated by means of adjusting the word order. Passive voice is translated by conversions. When translating the rhetoric, for example, parallelism, rhetorical question, keeping form is adopted to cater to the target reader. This report and translated text stress the role of Functional Equivalence in the novel translation, aiming to enable translation majors and English translation fans to have a better command over the Functional Equivalence Theory and its guidance. Besides, the choice of Comfort Woman as the translated text helps Chinese readers to know more the life condition of comfort women.
