With an example of the translation of “Review of High Efficiency and Clean Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition(RCCI)Combustion in Internal Combustion Engines”(extract),the thesis first analyzes the textual features of the source text from four aspects: the source text adopts many sub-and technical words as well as acronyms in the lexical level;there are a large amount of passive constructions and nominalized structures in the sentence level;it uses the cohesive devices, like reference and substitution,to realize the logic coherence in the paragraph level;it highlights the logicality, normativity and simplicity featured by the technical texts in the discourse level.Under the guidance of The Functional Equivalence theory put forward by Eugene Nida, the thesis then analyzes the typical cases in the translation from four perspectives including the lexicon, sentence, paragraph and discourse, and accordingly proposes the translation strategies. The strategies of the meaning extension and the conversion of word classes are adopted for the lexical equivalence;the subject is changed and the adverbial is preposed in the translation for the sentence equivalence;the strategies of the restoration of pronouns and the shift of conjunctions are used for the paragraph equivalence;the implicit causality is translated into obvious one and the translation of unit symbols strictly complies with specifications for the discourse equivalence.Through the above analyses of the translation cases,it is proved that the guidance of the translation of technical texts using the Functional Equivalence theory is of scientificity, feasibility as well as operability. Finally the thesis concludes two main problems in the translation process, which includes the unavailability to the English corpus and the low work efficiency in the translation of a large amount of graphs due to the lack of translation tools.
