The task of this interpreting practice is to interpret one of the speeches at the Patent Information Annual Conference 2015. The theme of the speech is“Non-Practicing Entities’ as a Patent Market Intermediary: Strategic and Policy Implications”. This report elaborates on the task, classifies and analyzes the typical cases in my interpreting, and summarizes my experience obtained from this practice.This report consists of five parts, including Task Description, Process Description, Preparation, Case Analyses and Summary. Task Description describes the source, requirements and content of this interpreting practice. The Process Description narrates the whole process of my performance of the task. Preparation refers to the collection of the relevant information, including searching for the speaker’s background information and related speeches, the theme of the annual meeting of the patent information, and relevant knowledge and vocabulary on patent information industry. In the part of Case Analyses, the author analyzes the application of interpreting theories and skills from the following five aspects: following the principle of running parallel with the original speaker, focusing on the core content under the principle of reformulation, choosing economical expressions under the principle of simplification, merging information under the principle of information equivalence and mistakes in processing information. In Summary, the author sorts out the experiences: to successfully perform an interpreting task, one must not only master fundamental interpreting skills, but also possess strong mentality and resilience.
