This translation practice selected parts of The Inclusive Growth and Development Report 2015 as original text.Long sentences are widely used in this report.This practice report focuses on translation of complex sentences.The complex sentences contain many clauses,phrases and modifiers,coordinate elements,and also the patterns of omission,separation and inversion.Therefore,the translation of complex sentences becomes one of the the most difficult problems as well as the focus in the translating process of this original text.This report analyzes the translation of complex sentences in the original text.It aims to promote the studies on the translation of complex sentences.This report studies how to deal with complex sentences translation in a proper way so that translated texts could express the meaning of source texts both faithfully and idiomatically within translation strategies of Sequential Translation,Reverse Translation,Split Translation and Synthesis Translation.Sequential Translation is suitable under the circumstances of source language and target language sharing same sentence structure,chronological order,logical order and same subject with many predicates.Reverse Translation is for the different expression habits.Split Translation solves the problem of complicated forms of the original text and makes the target text clear and smooth.Synthesis Translation includes above three translation methods.The translator needs not only analyzing the complicated structure but also fully understand the theme and style of the source texts when choosing proper words and phrases from English to Chinese translation,trying to reach the standard of "elegant writing" as much as possible.
