This is a practice report based on the escort interpretation in Chicago that the author did in 2016.Escort interpretation is a special bilingual social activity,with its own characteristics which are impromptu,complexity,and free.The process of an interpretation is complicated.There are several problems that the author encountered in that interpretation practice.The author analyses the problems that occur in the interpretation,and presents the solutions to the problems based on Skopos theory.Reiss believes the function and the purpose of translation are important.Skopos theory is a new research method on translation.It gives new perspectives for translation studies and translation practices.In an interpretation task,an interpreter is a communicative bridge between visitors and tourist attractions,and the aim of escort interpretation is intercultural communication.Therefore,interpreters should focus on the purpose of the source content based on Skopos theory,and translate the source content into target content faithfully and coherently in order to get that aim.Consequently,different translation methods should be used in different situations.There are three parts in this practice report.The first part covers a detailed description of the interpretation task,the second part deals with the task preparations.The third part analyzes the problems that the author encountered during the interpretation,and finds out the solutions to the problems based on Skopos Theory.The aims of this report is exchanging opinions and providing references to other interpreters.
