This translation project translates World Oil Outlook 2015(WOO 2015)(Chapters 2-3,Sectionl)which was published on the official website of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries(OPEC),The great foresight of this report surely has certain guiding functions for future development of the oil industry,and even the development of all walks of life.The translator selected this report as the project material,aiming to provide the latest industry dynamic for domestic readers or related practitioners,to offer facilities for investors to understand the overall development trend and the economic situation of the industry and provide ideas and thinking directions for their investment.It also tries to provide convenience for decision-makers to have a clear understanding of the market situation and development prospect of the industry so as to ensure the objectivity and scientificity of their decisions.Meanwhile,through the translation project,the translator intended to explore the methods and techniques suitable for translating English texts of Petroleum Science and Technology literature.The source text is an informative text that mainly analyses the global oil demand,supply prospects,and future trends in mid-term(2015-2020)and long-term(2020-2040),which aims to straighten out a range of issues regarding the oil market.The extracted parts,the second and third chapter of section one,analyse the sector demands for oil and forecast liquid supply prospects.Under the guidance of the Skopos theory,the translator completed the translation by overcoming various difficulties of vocabulary,sentence,pragmatic expression caused by different language,culture and ways of thinking,by using methods like literal translation,free translation,and using such techniques as amplification and omission etc.To sum everything up,the translator wrote this translation report which consists of five chapters.The first chapter introduces the background,purpose and significance of the translation project.The second chapter gives a description of the translation process,including preparations made before the translation,the translation process and the post-translation.Chapter three sums up the guiding function of the Skopos theory,including its three basic principles applied to the English-Chinese translation of Petroleum Science and Technology literature.Chapter four is case analysis,in which the translator summarized the key and difficult points,in combination of specific examples,of the translation project.The last chapter is a conclusion of enlightenment the translator got in the translation process,and unsolved problems and existing limitations for future improvement and perfection as well.Through the three steps,namely,meaning studying,translating and proofreading,the translator constantly sumed up the difficulties and worked out coping strategies in the process of translation,committed to the combination of the Skopos theory and Petroleum Science and Technology literature for further research and verification of the characteristics and techniques of Petroleum Science and Technology literature translation from a perspective of micro text.
