After forty years' reform and open-up,China now is at the cross road of the second reform and transformation.Currently,China has become a rising power in terms of comprehensive national strength and international status and has been increasingly concerned in the international community.As an approach for publicizing China to the world,the translation of political materials has become more and more important nowadays.The author chose as the translation material China in Transition: Trend of China's Development(Chapter Three of the First Part)written by Mr.Chi Fulin and Mr.Fu Zhiping.The original text contains 12263 words in total.This book is mainly about the urbanization in China,which is the most rapid one with the largest scale in human history because of the massive economy and huge population of the country.Based on Christiane Nord's text analysis theory,the author fully analyzed the intratextual and extratextual factors of the original text and mainly used instrumental translation strategy in the process of translation,with documentary translation strategy as a supplement.That is,the author mainly adopted free translation,with other translation methods such as literal translation and the combination of literal translation and free translation,and a variety of other translation approaches to make the translation as accurate and idiomatic as possible.Through this translation practice and the writing of the report,the author has discussed translation methods for political text and gained a better understanding of translation of political text.A good translation is built upon tremendous practice and everyday devotion.A good translator is one who should be equipped with Chinese and English competence,encyclopedia knowledge,practical theoretical guidance and preciseness.
