As a branch of psychology, positive psychology sprung up in the 1920s.Different from traditional psychology,it mainly focuses on studying people's quality and soul. There are three pillars of it:positive emotional experience, positive personalities and positive social fabric. And this book pays its attention on people's grit, which is one of the positive personalities. The author thinks that it is grit rather than IQ that matters most in people's success. Now,this concept has swept the whole American fields of education. Thus, schools and parents start to cultivate children's grit. The translation of this book helps popularize basic knowledge of positive psychology, especially the importance of grit.It can be applied to education,so as to foster children's quality and help them achieve success.Chapter ten and chapter thirteen of Grit:the Power of passion and Perseverance were selected as the translation text. This thesis illustrated the background, process, text characteristics, difficulties and solutions in translation from aspects of project introduction, procedure description and case analysis.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory, translation methods such as inversion, repetition and annotation are adopted in this thesis to produce a more faithful and expressive translation. The thesis is also aimed to provide some reference for those who would translate texts of the same kind.
