This is a report on the translation of chapter five and chapter six of “How to Get Dressed: A Costume Designer's Secrets for Making Your Clothes Look,Fit,and Feel Amazing” authored by Alison Freer,a costume designer from Texas. It is easy to read,a useful guidebook for beginners. For the readers, they will get a different version of fashion rules and how to cope with the costume disaster to avoid awkward situation,as well as feel less anxiety in routine reunion and special occasions.Terminologies, long and complex sentences in humorous and funny tones are waiting for us to crack during translation.Figures of speech serve as a tool by the author to enhance readability.Under the guidance of communicative translation initiated by Peter Newmark, the translator utilizes translation skills, such as,conversion, amplification and division to complete the translation. The whole project report contains four chapters: chapter one gives a brief introduction to the project report, followed by the analysis of ST in chapter two.Translation theories referred to on this project are seen in chapter three, where the core of the report, analysis of technical terms in fashion, long and complex sentences, figure of speech and corresponding translation skills are further detailed. Finally, conclusions and problems to be solved are in chapter four.
