A Report On The Translation Of The Genius Of Birds(Chapter One)

This is a translation project report on translating Chapter One of The Genius of Birds,written by Jennifer Ackerman.The author travels around the world to seek these intelligent birds and explore their intelligence.This book is an informative text with high academic value,and the chosen chapter focuses on describing the behaviors of intelligent birds,making a series of laboratory and wild experiments of bird's behaviors and then comparing the intelligence between different kinds of birds.The translation project will not only increase scholarly understanding of birds,but provide a guide to environment protection and the study of animal intelligence.The translation report consists of five parts.The first part is an introduction,which covers the project background,significance and the structure of the report.In the second part,the background of the authors,main contents and stylistic features of the source text are included.The third part is about the translation theory and related preparation,and this report is based on text type theory.The following part focuses on the encountered difficulties and translation skills,the text typology theory will be adopted and combined with the examples to explain the difficulties and the application of different translation skills including amplification,conversion and so on.The fifth part summarizes the experiences and lessons learned by the translator and problems unsolved in this translation project.
