With the development of society and science and technology, big data has become an integrated part of business operations.Companies could now quickly and precisely analyze information and preference of customer with big data, thus gaining an edge in the fierce competition through making relative marketing strategies. This translation project report deals with the third chapter of Streaming,Sharing,Stealing: Big Data and the Future of Entertainment,co-authored by Michael D.Smith and Rahul Telang.Functional equivalence is the guiding principle of this report. The main difficulties in this translation project are long sentences and passive voices.Hence, literal translation, division and conversion of voice are used to improve the readability of target text by the translator. The translation project report can be divided into four parts. The first chapter describes the backgrounds, aims, significance and structure of the report.Chapter two, focusing on the background of the source text and its authors, introduces the source version, main content, text type and language characteristics.Chapter three, the main body of this report, includes difficulties, preparatory work and methods applied in this report. The last chapter summarizes the lessons the translator got and unsolved problems in this report.
