The Comparison Of Word Based Teaching Method And Chunks Of Language Teaching In Short Time Of Primary Chinese Teaching

In the process of Teaching Chinese as a foreign language,instructors are used to using Word-Based Teaching Method(WBTM),which is starting with teaching independent Chinese vocabulary.WBTM basically asks students to make their own sentences with these new words,then they will read one or more paragraphs which have these words in;therefore,the purpose of WBTM is to helping students to accurately use vocabulary by understanding the contexts.Another popular way to teach Chinese is called Chunks of Language Teaching Method(CLTM).Essentially,CLTM is focused on teaching chunks of vocabulary,explaining the meaning in different situations;because of this,students can learn how to use fixed pairs of words or phrases without thinking in actual practice.This is a good way to develop the fluency of expression conversations.By comparing WBTM and CLTM,we found that there are some similarities and differences between these two methods.In the study of Hospitality department in Udonthani Vocational College,the research shows that WBTM and CLTM both have advantages in short-term Chinese learning.WBTM fit the transliteration cognitive model in Thailand;thus this method is more acceptable than CLTM for Thai beginners,but the limitation of WBTM is the requirement of vocabulary,students may not have enough time to memorize a lot of words in a short period of time.In terms of CLTM,beginners may develop the sense of achievement by learning chunks,and these phrases are more practical than WBTM,which is helpful in spoken Chinese.Consequently,to maximize the results of teaching Chinese,the best way is to combine these two methods,that is,teaching CLTM based on learning WBTM.
