The development of corporate industrialization and modernization has created considerable material wealth for mankind.However,it has also done great harm to the natural environment.It is publicly pointed out in the blue book Annual Report on Enterprise Citizenship in China(2009)that enterprises are the main source of ecological and environmental deterioration.So it is very necessary to improve the environmental awareness of corporations.This thesis studies the C-E translation of the publicity literature of corporate environmental protection with Katharina Reiss' s text typology as the theoretical basis.It first analyzes the text type,language functions and features of the Chinese publicity literature of corporate environmental protection.Then it explores and summarizes some concrete translation methods at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels in order to make the publicity literature achieve functional equivalence in the target language.The thesis consists of three chapters besides an introduction and a conclusion.Chapter One introduces the theoretical background of Reiss' s text typology as well as the basic categories and the language functions expounded in her theory.Reiss put forward this theory on the basis of the language organon model advanced by German psychologist Karl Bühler and classified texts into the informative,expressive and operative types.These three text types perform the informative,expressive and appellative functions respectively.Chapter Two discusses the text type,language functions and features of the Chinese publicity literature of corporate environmental protection.The Chinese publicity literature of corporate environmental protection is a kind of hybrid text which has the features of the informative and operative texts.Accordingly,it performs the informative and appellative functions.As for its language features,it is characterized by the frequent use of technical terms,verbs,four-character phrases and rhetorical devices at the lexical level.At the syntactic level,it often uses active voice and subjectless sentences,and its sentences are arranged in a certain logical order.At the textual level,it is parataxis-prominent with few cohesive devices and shows an objective and authentic tone in narrative style.Chapter Three analyzes some concrete translation methods for the reproduction of the original informative and appellative functions from the lexical,syntactical and textual levels.The methods discussed at the lexical level are normalization of technical terms,nominalization of verbs and economization of diction;those discussed at the syntactic level are conversion of voices,adjustment of subjectless sentences and reorganization of word order;and those at the textual level are logical integration of information,addition of cohesive devices and transference of the objective and authentic narrative style.The thesis holds that,by employing the methods discussed above,the translations can succeed in achieving the purpose of conveying information and appealing to the readers in the publicity literature of corporate environmental protection.And this can help people make active contributions to the protection of our environment.
