The Development And Application Of Scale For Police Training School Students' Police Career Maturity

Career maturity refers to the maturity of an individual's vocational behavior as indicated by the similarity between his behavior and that of the oldest individuals in his vocational life stage.It's an important evaluation indicator for one's development of career.However,there are enormous differences of contents and requirements among various professions,so the general career maturity scale could not precisely reflect the level of career maturity of people from different fields of occupation.Therefore,the career maturity scales which are focus on those specific fields are increasingly demanded.The police is a special occupation with high professional requirements.As the Probationary Police,the police training school students' developments of career maturity have a large influence on the future of the police.Developing a scale of police training school students' police career maturity not only can provide an effective measurement tool for the further study of the development of police career maturity of police training school students,but also can supplement the data for the researches for career maturity of special fields.Based on relevant research at home and abroad,and combined with results of semi-structured interviews,this research established an initial theoretical model of police career maturity of students in police training schools,which is suit for the reality of Chinese police students;Then developed the original scale depend on the model.By using exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis,the model was corrected and the formal scale was developed.After the scale's reliability and validity were tested,it was used to be a measurement to find out the development characteristics of Chinese police training school students' police career maturity.There are the results:(1)The police training school students' police career maturity has two dimensions which were named Attitudes and Competencies.The Attitudes contains three factors,called Decisiveness,Involvement and Orientation;The Competencies contains four factors,called Police Experiences,Physical Fitness,Environmental Adaptation,and Police Consciousness.(2)The Scale of Police training school students' police career maturity which is developed by this research has good reliability and validity.(3)The police training school students' police career maturity is in the general level.(4)With the increasing of grade,there is an irregular growth trend of police training school students' police career maturity.The level of police training school students' police career maturity goes up from freshman to sophomore and so as it from junior and senior.However it declines from sophomore to junior.The junior class is an important turning point of the development of the police training school students' police career maturity.(5)The boys' level of the police training school students' police career maturity is significantly higher than that of girls.(6)The junior college students' level of the police training school students' police career maturity is significantly higher than that of Undergraduates.(7)The level of the police training school students' police career maturity of police-majored students is significantly higher than that of the students who are not police-majored.
