A Report On Simulated E-C Simultaneous Interpreting

With the expansion of international communications,the number of international conferences is increasing and simultaneous interpreting,as the most commonly accepted way of interpreting service for important international conferences,is becoming the hot point of many researches.This thesis is a report on simulated S-C simultaneous interpreting of Trump's “First 100 Day Plan” speech in Gettysburg.On October 22 nd,2016,the republican candidate for the 45 th president of the US,Donald J.Trump,delivered his “100 Day Plan” speech in Gettysburg,which was one of his important addresses during the presidential election campaign.In the speech,Trump pointed out that America was at the crossroads of historical changes,and he was determined and confident to steer the country into the right direction of a great nation again.The speech works for a simulated simultaneous interpreting practice owing to the simple sentence structures,wide ranges of content,unique language style as well as the comparatively standard pronunciation.In the report,the author analyzes some of the SI techniques applied,sums up the difficulties encountered and proposes optimal solutions and on-the spot remedies with a view to accumulating experience for the future practice,improving on-the spot strain capacity of SI,and eventually ensuring the quality of SI practice.First,the author mainly talks about the background,content and requirements of the SI task.Then,the author focuses on the task process,including pre-interpreting preparations,the interpreting process and post-interpreting analysis.The better understanding of Trump's oratorical characteristics,language styles,governing ideas,pronunciation and interpreting strategies is based on the in-depth study of some speeches delivered by Donald Trump and other former American presidents as well as books on public speeches and interpreting skills.For the enhancement of the authenticity,the interpreting practice is completed in the presence of classmates audience.Detailed descriptions of the process and assessments on different aspects of the interpreting are given by the audience.Post-interpreting analyzing is the study of audience's feedback and the author's self-reflection.The last part is the core of this report,which centers around the difficulties confronted in completing the task,such as problems in understanding the source language,short-term memory and output of target language,and proposes coping tactics for the corresponding problems by analyzing typical cases.
