| The ancient myths were the historical footprints left by the ancient people at the very beginning of their history. They were some stories about gods and heroes imagined by primitive ancestors. And they were the traditional cultural source of human society.Chinese mythology has had a profound influence on Chinese traditional culture.Translation plays a very important role to make Chinese culture known to the world. For some important cultural video programs, interpretation is the only way to help them to be known to the world, and the quality of interpretation directly affects the communication effect. The decisive factor affecting the quality of interpreting is the interpreting strategies. The interpretive theory has been the dominant theory in this field and has a positive impact on interpretation. This theory has been enriched and developed with the research of many translation scholars. The interpretive theory holds that interpreting is a meaningful communication activity;the object of the interpretation is the meaning of the source language, rather than the language itself. On this basis, the interpretive theory advocates the triangle model in the interpreting activity, which consists of three phases: comprehension, deverbalization and re-expression.This interpreting practice project is from the “China myths” series of the program “Lecture Room”,including 2 episodes: Enlightenment of Dayu Combating the Flood and Pan Gu Creating Heaven and Earth. With the guidance of the interpretive theory, the interpreter combines several interpreting strategies together to finish the object, such as free interpretation, giving explaining information, deverbalization and explanation, transliteration with explanation,re-expressing,and so on.By this way,the interpreter has effectively transferred the meaning and content of the source language and the audience of the target language have understood and accepted it easily. |
