A Project Report On The Consecutive Interpreting Strategies From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory For 2015 International Conference On The Administration Of Small Theatre

Entering 21st Century, with the globalization, the interpretation activities has been playing a significant role in the human’s political, economic, and cultural exchange. Interpretation serves as a bridge at those exchanges. Hence, people begin to realize the importance of interpretation, especially in the field of the cultural exchange. As an interpreter, the reporter participated in the 2015 International Conference on the Administration of the Small Theater in Nanjing on November 10th- 12th,2015. Interpretation activities focus on the Conference contents.During the preparation work, holding and after service in Conference, the reporter found many difficulties and obstacles in this project. On one hand, the 2015 Conference concentrated on the new type of management of the small theater in new Internet era. Involved with plenty of terminologies and professional knowledge of drama, the reporter found it was a little difficult. To make matters worse, the speakers usually deliver long speech with no period, using extremely long and complicated sentences, which challenged not only the short-memory and note-taking capability of the interpreter, but also the psychological quality.In order to guarantee the quality of interpretation an accurately convey the meanings of the source language, it’s necessary for interpreter to choose proper interpreting theories and interpreting strategies. The reporter adopted the Interpretive Theory as the project theoretical guidance, represented by the Danica Seleskovitch and Lederer Mariana. The Interpretive theory believes that the interpretation is regarded as a communicative activity whose focal point is to extract and convey meaning or sense, which is in line with the original intention and objectives of this conference interpretation. It might be a meaningful attempt to probe into the interpreting strategies from the perspective of Interpretive Theory.Therefore, guided by the interpretive theory, this thesis is aimed to analyze and discuss the difficulties met during the project, and put forward corr-responding solutions and five interpretation strategies, expecting to a better guidance to interpretation practices. These five interpreting strategies are explanation strategy, sentences reconstitution strategy, simplification strategy, formula practice strategy and anticipation strategy. The reporter hope all these corpus analysis in this report can make a contribution to the interpretation studies and provide some useful experience and guidance to interpreters.
