| This report is on the interpreting of the first two episodes of the CCTV documentary The Pilgrimage of Xuanzang.Based on real historical records,the video shows his perseverance through true-to-life description.The aim of interpreting lies in conveying what’s in the source text to the targeted addressees,and the completion of the activity is marked by the fulfillment of the aim.Therefore this report takes Skopos Theory as a guideline.The theory stipulates that translating(and interpreting)is an intentional behavior and that translation methods are determined by the aim of the activity.Apart from presenting the source text and the translated text,the report is made up of four parts: introduction,preparation,case study and conclusion.To begin with,the first part briefly introduces the task: to interpret the first two episodes of the documentary The Pilgrimage of Xuanzang.The second part includes terminologies and the framework of the theory,it presents terminologies and the theory’s synopsis and especially its three rules,i.e.Skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.The third part is on the analysis of various interpreting cases in the light of Skopos Theory,the settlement of unique occasions and difficulties during the interpreting.Some conclusions are drawn through analysis: a)bilingual proficiency underlies the completion of the interpreting task;b)interpreting is demanding so the interpreter must have quick response;and c)successful accomplishment of interpreting is inseparable from theoretical guidance,and Skopos Theory is directive to interpreting practice. |
