Project Report On The Consecutive Interpreting For The 43^rd ASEAN Young Leaders Training Program

In recent years,the exchanges between China and ASEAN have been on the rise.The communication and cooperation are no longer limited to politics and economy,but also expand to education,culture and other fields.The hosting of ASEAN Young Leaders Training Program was an initiative that passed at the 1st China-ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth in Beijing,on September 2004.This program undoubtedly plays an important role in enhancing the friendly relationship between China and ASEAN nations.The author served as a consecutive interpreter in the Seminar on Guangxi Poverty Alleviation under the 43rd ASEAN Young Leaders Training Program.The seminar was mainly about the current situation of Guangxi poverty alleviation,containing lots of materials with the features of governmental publicity that are of analysis significance.The author selected typical cases and analyzed the features of government publicities and their interpreting coping strategies with relevant theories.This report consists of five parts.Chapter one is about the general introduction of this task.The second chapter is about the preparation before the task,including four sub-chapters,namely analysis on task and target audiences,preparation for background knowledge and seminar related materials.In the third chapter,the author mentions the existing problems in the translation of government publicities,analyzes the features of this type of materials from lexical and sentential aspects,and summarizes three interpreting coping tactics,namely,amplification,redundancy reduction and logical rearrangement.The fourth chapter is post-interpreting evaluation including self-assessment and evaluation from speaker,audiences and entrusting party.The fifth chapter is the conclusion of this report.This report is based on the real materials from the author's actual consecutive interpreting task and is an analysis and summary on problems,characteristics and coping strategies of governmental materials for publicity purpose.The author sincerely hopes this report can be a reference for both interpreting studies and learners in the future.
