This is a report of translation practice.The source text Richard Posner was written by William Domnarski,an American author.It mainly described Richard Posner's whole life struggle for the establishment and development of law and economics in the U.S.The translator chose the sixth chapter,which expounded the plans and reforms proposed by Richard Posner when facing a more complex and more varied legal environment in 2010-2014.Under the guidance of Katharina Reiss's Text-Typology,the translator defined the text types of this source text-biography,at the same time,also carried out a widely reading and studying on the text-typology and translation strategies and techniques.Furthermore,it showed the process of translation and the completion.At last,the translator did some research about some specific problems during the translation.This report was divided into four parts.The first one was the introduction of the project,including the introduction of the content and the objective and significance of the translation.The second one was the description of the process,including the Pre-translation,translation process,and post-translation.The third one was case analysis,including the specific problems and techniques employed during the translation.In this part,under the guidance of Katharina Reiss's Text-Typology,the translator employed three syntactic strategies,following the original syntactic order,sentence restructuring,amplification and omission during the translation to achieve the text function and to make sure the quality of translation.The fourth one was a summary,which was a conclusion of the experience of translation process and an expectation for further study,including some shortcomings and research aspects for future.According to the theory of text-typology,the translator defined the original text as a compound text-expressive and informative text.Under the guidance of Reiss's text-typology,the translator used some translation strategies so as to make a faithful and accurate effect which convey the content and form of the original text.The translator hoped that through this translation practice and translation report,it would be a better understanding of the biographical text,and would strengthen the skill of translation especially long sentences at the same time.The paper also provided methods and references for the translator's future translation works.
