The paper arrangement of the new Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK)Level 5 retains the listening and the reading parts of the old HSK,while omitting the fill in the blank and grammar portions and adding the writing part, of which the first part is the sentence completion. Students generally consider the writing part to be the most difficult part with the lowest scoring rate. Compared with the composition part, the quantity of the sentence completion questions is larger, more complex in knowledge of grammar and vocabulary and more difficult.This paper tests and analyzes the past sentence completion questions of the writing section of the new Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) Level 5 from the perspective of grammar fluency. After systematically analyzing and classifying the most recent 10 sets of global unified Level 5 past exams, the author developed questionnaires to test different levels of Chinese learners, of which participants included students of the International Education Exchange College of Tianjin Normal University, undergraduate international students and matriculation students.This paper is divided into five sections. The first section introduces the background, purpose and significance of the topic as well as the researching contents and methods of the thesis.By consulting the literature, we will roughly understand the research direction and status of the sentence completion component of the past 10 Level 5 exams, then develops a questionnaire to gather the survey data. The fourth section provides advice from two unique perspectives of the teachers' instruction and students' learning and reflects the shortcomings of instruction. The fifth section is the conclusion of this paper, including the summary of the full text, an overview of the thesis, and the shortcomings of this article. The research associated with this paper is expected to help Chinese teachers and candidates of HSK Level 5, thus developing and improving Chinese instruction and examinations.
