| The fastening process of its modernization and globalization has made China frequent trade contacts with other countries,and China's motor market is also no exception.While translators for China's motor market are experiencing challenges and chances when introducing advanced technology from abroad.On the one hand,technical text translation on motor industry involves amounts of professional knowledge,which becomes a huge obstacle for translators.On the other hand,there are not many authoritative versions concerned on motor texts in the market of China for reference.Considering above circumstances,the author takes the translation project---English to Chinese Translation of Engineering Specifications for Hyundai Motor Company as the case study to dig up the key points in the process of translation on motor industry.Sichuan Hyundai Motor Company brought into two types of commercial vehicles in 2015,which would enter into China's market in the second half year of 2016.The company entrusted the author to translate engineering specifications for introduced vehicles from English to Chinese,which would provide technical specifications for the technicians who take parts in tests to verify whether the vehicles are qualified to enter into China's market.The translation report comprises four chapters: the first chapter introduces project background,including the introduction of the Engineering Specification,purpose and significance of the project and translation requirements of the project;the second chapter describes project process,including translation preparation,translating stage and quality control after translation;the third chapter concentrates in studying representative cases occurred in this translation project.Firstly,the author summarized the characteristics of the source text from words,sentence,text and format level;then under the functional equivalence theory,translation analysis for modal verbs and passive voice are concluded according to their characteristics.At last,other difficulties in this translation and solutions will be discussed;the fourth chapter is reflection for this translation project,including translation experience,deficiencies appeared during the translation process and the suggestions to translate science and technical text.On the basis of E-C translation project of engineering specifications for Sichuan Hyundai Motor Company,the report takes the translation cases to summarize characteristics and translation methods of engineering specification texts for the parts and components in motor fields,which will provide some reference to translators who take over translation project on motor field.The translation project and translation report have enlightened the author a deeper understanding on the translation work,which is meaningful for guiding translators in the future similar translation practice work. |
