Analysis Of Chinese Character Study And Errors Of Thai Students Of Silpakorn University

Character and language are closely related: the character is a writing system,used to record and spread the language, is a cultural tool; language is communication ideas,shows the expression of emotional tools, is the most important socialized relationship between the members of human society. Therefore, people learn a language, Not only to master the oral expression ability in their daily life, but also need to master the written expression ability aswell, espeacially have to correctly use the text in reading and writing skill. In short, listening, speaking, reading, and writing four fundamental abilities need to be improved together at the same time.Although Chinese characters are one of the important factors in the way of learning Chinese, however have brought lots of obstacles to the Chinese learners. Chinese characters belong to the box text, composed of a stroke by the stroke in a word, if compared to the text in another language of the world, Chinese character is completely different, the Chinese learners who are the mother tongue for the phonetic language background will encounter the problems related to Chinese characters in reading and writing skills, because they have to remember the Chinese characters first, in order to read and write correctly. In case of learning Chinese students in Thailand, they are also not familiar with the Chinese characters, because the differences between Chinese characters and Thai characters are extremely different. The particularity of Chinese characters makes the majority of students encounter difficulties in reading and writing mostly. They think that Chinese characters are one of the difficulties in the way of learning Chinese.The sample of this research was taken from the population of Chinese majors who were students at Silpakorn University in Thailand. This paper studies the situation of Thai students' learning Chinese characters in colleges and universities throughout their perspective. Through questionnaires and interviews in order to understand their learning attitude, and analyze in case of the Chinese characters that encountered in the process of learning, Chinese teaching methods for teachers and learning methods Chinese characters of students included with the problem of Chinese characters and their Chinese characters writing errors,collected data were analyzed to identify the causes of the problem,and the Chinese characters teaching would suggest the forward for an additional proposal.The findings of the study revealed that, students believe that "writing" is the most difficult to learn Chinese characters in learning skills, although they clearly know that there are the different between each Chinese characters, but it is easy to appear varieties of errors. The problems encountered in the students' learning Chinese characters can be divided into three types: Firstly,according to the aspects of Chinese character's pronunciation problems, most of the students have known new words, but still do not know the sound pronunciation. Secondly,in the reviews of Chinese character's meaning problems, mostly problem is when they have known new words, however still do not know the meaning of the word.Thirdly,in the aspects of the characteristic in Chinese characters, the students always face up with the problem of how to write the Chinese characters.Finally, according to the analyzed result, the researcher have found many varieties reasons that leading problem to the students in Chinese learning; for example, the unique characteristics in Chinese characters. Furthermore, the differences between Chinese characters and Thai characters in two languages, the lack of domestic context about Thai-Chinese characters of the Chinese textbooks, the arrangement of Chinese teaching,teachers 'own factors, and errors caused by students' own factors.
