Report On The Translation Of A Limited Partnership Agreement

This report focuses on the translation of a Limited Partnership Agreement related to the United States' EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program.It was assigned by a translation company as part of its subcontracted translation tasks,and was conducted as a team work collaborated by the author of this report and the coordinator and proofreader of the translation company.As two similar texts were translated before,such texts were selected as the parallel texts for this translation practice.Also,a computer-aided translation tool was adopted to fully make use of all the available resources and facilitate the translation process.The agreement in question is about the rights and obligations of each party in the project,and is highly specialized with respect to legal and economic issues.Through a preliminary analysis of the source text based on text typology,it becomes evident that the agreement is a legal text in nature and that its function is mainly regulatory with its specialized diction,long and complicated sentence structures,which prove most difficult for its translation.In accordance with the results of this analysis,this report further discusses some translation strategies adopted in the translation process to solve the above difficulties,following the principle of accuracy and precision and the principle of professionalism.Such discussions can help the author to improve her translation quality and also provide some hints to the future translation practices.
