A Report On The E-C Translation Of A Limited Partnership Agreement

This is the report on the translation of A Limited Partnership Agreement,which is assigned by Shanghai Lawtone Co.Ltd.The report is based on the translation of Chapter One to Chapter Three,which has 6000 English words in total.The whole agreement is translated by three translators together.The content of the source text is related to professional legal knowledge and it contains a large number of terminology definitions.Parts of the source text are related to each other.The commissioner requires accurate translation and standardized language for this task.This report is divided into five sections.The first chapter introduces the task from the aspects of task background,content of the task and the commissioner's requirements.The second chapter illustrates the translation process,including stages of pre-translation,translation and post-translation.Parallel texts and auxiliary tools are prepared in the stage of pre-translation.Proofreading is done in the stage of post-translation.The third chapter analyzes text features on levels of lexis,syntax and style,and demonstrates difficulties in translating the text.The fourth chapter is case study on solutions to difficulties in translating this agreement from aspects of lexis,syntax and style.The final chapter concludes the author's experience gained from translation.The author gives following solutions to difficulties in translating this agreement.Legal pairs are translated with equivalents.Legal words are translated with assistance of corpora to achieve standardization.Vague words are translated literally.The structures of long and complex sentences are split and adjusted to keep accuracy.Passive voice sentences are converted into active voice.To keep the feature of solemnity,meanings of archaic words are amplified in Chinese.Fixed sentence patterns are translated with the method of syntactic linearity.The author tries to conclude translation methods used and at the same time to offer guidance and assistance to those who work in translating limited partnership agreements.
