With the strengthened economic tie between China and South America in recent years,a growing number of South Americans have joined the ranks of Chinese learners.The Institute Confucius of University Catholic of Santa Maria(hereinafter referred to as the Confucius Institute)is one of the four Confucius Institutes in Peru.The fast growing Confucius Institute has become an important education center devoted to spreading the Chinese culture in South Peru,thus attracting a large number of Chinese learners in the local area.Considering the difference in the actual condition and needs among those Chinese learners,it is necessary to survey their needs for studying Chinese,which will have a great effecton the improvement of those Chinese learners and the development of Chinese teaching for the Confucius Institute.Starting from the actual needs of those Chinese learners,this paper is based on the principle of the need analysis.By means of questionnaire and statistical analysis,this paper will analyze the needs of those Chinese learners in the Confucius Institute from the perspective of learner background,learning need,learning goal and basic knowledge learning method.After analyzing the basic information and relevant background of those Chinese learners,this paper will summarize their features,including their learning motives as well as the needs in terms of the teacher,course,textbook and basic knowledge learning.In addition,this paper will also make a study of those problems and flaws in the Chinese teaching of the Confucius Institute.In order to better tailor the Chinese teaching to the actual needs of those Chinese learners,this paper will also provide some advice and solutions accordingly.
