The Ministry of Foreign Affairs(MFA)website is the authoritative and significant platform for releasing authoritative information about foreign policies and development of China. Thus, the translation of diplomatic news of the MFA website is particularly important. The author has been a member of the C-E news translation project of the MFA website, which is the cooperation project of MFA and Xi'an International Studies University(XISU).During the translation process, the author notices that terms in diplomatic news, covering a wide range, are rooted in Chinese culture and characterized by high political sensitivity. Most of them involve China's foreign policies and vital interests such as sovereignty and territorial integrity.Terms on MFA website are loaded with Chinese diplomatic thoughts and play an important role in carrying forward diplomatic ideas of China. Therefore, term translation in the project is of significance. However, the author detects many term translation problems during the translation process, which generally can be divided into four aspects, namely, mistranslation, inconsistency, redundancy and ambiguity.Based on personal translation experience, this report regards terms in the project as the study object, points out major problems of term translation in the translation process and analyzes the causes through case analysis from the perspective of cognitive Terminology. Then three major solutions,namely,standardization,re-conceptualization and re-categorization are put forward partially with the aid of translation software on the basis of cognitive Terminology. This report aims to analyze the problems of term translation in the C-E news translation of the MFA website and to provide reference for future relevant translation practice.
