The development of science and technology is crucial to China's economic construction.In the age of globalization,EST(English for science and technology)translation is more significant in scientific exchange between China and the rest of the world.Translation of chemical documents is an indispensable part.In the field of chemistry,over 50% of papers in authoritative databases,including Scifinder,Chemical Data Reaxys,CNKI(China National Knowledge Infrastructure)and Fanfangdata,are written in English.Many leading-edge chemical findings are also in English.Translation of English chemical documents,therefore,becomes essential.This report discusses the translation of Noncryogenic Synthesis of Functionalized 2-Methoxypyridines by Halogen–Magnesium Exchange Using Lithium Dibutyl(isopropyl)magnesate(1–)and Lithium Chloride,which is a common form of academic paper in organic chemistry.This chemical experiment paper is practical in guiding the chemical experiment.Based on the stylistic features of chemical English,this report,accordingly takes advantage of electric dictionary,search engine and parallel text to fully understand the paper from lexical,syntactical and discourse levels.Guided by three principles of Skopos Theory proposed by Hans Vermeer,this report takes into account the receptibility of the audience to render the translation correct and coherent.Finally,this report figures out translation strategies and tactics of chemical texts through the analysis of many translation examples.
