A Practice Report On E-C Translation Of International Competitive Bidding Documents From The Perspective Of Stylistic Features

This project is a practice report based on English-Chinese translation of TENDER FOR MANUFACTURE,SUPPLY,PACKAGING AND DELIVERY OF LED BULBS REQUIRED FOR THE NAMPOWER 1mLED CAMPAIGN,which is provided by Beijing Longan Yihua Trading Co.,Ltd.The subject put into practice for this work is chosen from the first chapter of the “Instructions to Bidders”.The author analyzes some common problems occurring in the process of the E-C translation and then performs research into the corresponding translation strategies and methods based on the stylistic features of international competitive bidding documents in the thesis.The thesis consists of task description,procedure description,preparatory work,case analysis and summary.In the task description,the author provides a copy of professional vocabulary,reads parallel texts and analyzes the source text as well as proofreads and revises the translation in the end.In the case analysis,the author puts emphasis on the application of stylistic analysis to ICB documents translation referring to the guidance of skopos theory proposed by German functional translation theorist Hans J.Vermeer,and also investigates the translation strategies and methods.Based on translation experience out of ICB documents translation,the author takes abundant examples cited from the ICB documents combined with its stylistic features,and analyzes the strategies and methods of ICB documents translation on lexical and syntax levels.In lexis,terminology,synonym,archaisms and modal verb “shall”are introduced and discussed while in syntax,complicated sentences and passive structures are analyzed together with some translation strategies and methods.The author aims to study and sum up translation methods of ICB documents on the application of stylistic analysis,providing a new perspective for the study of ICB documents translation to arouse further exploration of the field.On the basis of the task description and case analysis,the conclusions are made as follows: a.The importance of preparatory work that will directly affect the faithfulness and smoothness of translation;b.The language for bidding documents has the features of precision and formality,long and complex sentences,normal and compact style,accordingly the criteria of corresponding,translation should be accurate,rigorous and normative;c.ICB documents is a kind of applied informative text,with specific lexical and syntactic features,and the style is inseparable from translation,so the study of stylistic features is beneficial to the study of E-C translation of ICB documents.Therefore the translator should take the stylistic features of the ST into consideration,and reproduce its style in the TL to reach the equivalence between the SL and the TL.When translating,the application of literal translation method which is commonly used in ICB documents E-C translation can not only maintain the original content,but also keep the original form.In addition,other flexible methods including sequence,reverse,split and reconstruction are adopted to make the TT acceptable and readable;d.It is essential for translator to have a certain degree of professionalism as well as the rigorous work attitude.Only the translator adheres to strict,accurate and the orthodox principle,can high-quality tender translated documents be produced.
