On E-C Translation Of Mechanical Engineering Text From The Perspective Of Peter Newmark's Translation Theory

Language is an important tool for human society to communicate,and translation is a bridge between different cultures.In an age of globalization,China is having frequent interactions with other countries and regions in aspects of machinery industry.In this background,there are more and more mechanical engineering translation activities.Because of unique and professional features of these texts,the related research on mechanical engineering text translation still has much to be improved.Using Introduction to Mechanism,Cams,Fasteners and Antifriction Bearings as the object of study and Newmark's translation theory as the theoretical framework,the thesis studies the translation strategies of terminology,long sentence and discourse in the English-Chinese translation process of mechanical engineering texts through the contrastive analysis of English and Chinese.The thesis is composed of four chapters.Chapter One summarizes the importance of English-Chinese translation of mechanical engineering texts,analyzes the current translation research at home and abroad,and explains the applicability of Newmark's translation theory to mechanical engineering English translation.In Chapter Two the thesis gives a comprehensive review of Newmark's translation theory,focusing on semantic translation and communicative translation.Chapter Three is the kernel of the thesis.By studying a number of examples in Introduction to Mechanism,Cams,Fasteners and Antifriction Bearings,the thesis applies Newmark's translation theory to the translation of mechanical engineering text and brings forward respectively translation strategies from three levels: the lexical level,the syntactic level and the discourse level.Chapter Four is the conclusion of the thesis.This chapter mainly summarizes the results of this study and the guiding significance for the reality.The purpose of this paper is to study the translation strategies of mechanical engineering texts,so as to offer some references to mechanical engineering translation and promote the exchange of Chinese and Western mechanical fields.
