A Practice Report On The Patent Translation In Mechanical Field

Patent documentation is the information about inventions and creations,which includes physical,chemical,mechanical,science,technology and other fields.With the increasing of international communication,patent documentation translation is becoming more and more important.The practice report is based on the author's practice experience of a patent documentation in mechanical field.The author analyzed and explored it from the following aspects:language features,syntax features,style features,word translation and sentence translation.Moreover,the author summarized a set of translation methods according to the characteristics of the patent documentations.The practice report is divided into five parts.The first part is task description,which mainly introduces the source of the patent documentation;the second part is process description,which is divided into preparation stage before translating,translating stage and checking after translating;the third part is pre-translation preparation,which mainly introduces what the author did before translation including text analysis and the preparation for related tools and vocabulary;the fourth part is case analysis,which based on the Functional Equivalence Theory of American linguist Nida,introducing the translation strategies from five aspects and the difficulties during the process;the fifth part is the practice summary which mainly talks about the accumulated experience the author got from the practice.In the practice report,the author analyzed and explored the text features and translation skills of the translation of the patent documentation in mechanical field,hoping that this report can be used for reference for the same type of patent translation.
