| With the coming of knowledge economy era,the protection awareness of our peo-ple and enterprises in foreign related patent application and intellectual property has been obviously enhanced. The patent documentation is one kind of important techni-cal information source, and plays a crucial role in international science and technology exchanges. In order to break down language barriers in international patent documen-tation communication, the patent translation comes into being. This translation practice report is based on a C-E translation project which in-volves two geo-technical engineering patents:A Plow Device for Indoor Geotechnical Model Test Trough and A Test System of Lateral Pipe Soil Interaction with Soil Lev-elling Device. From the perspective of Newmark’s Text Typology theory, the author analyzes and concludes the patent text translation of this project. The report consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, the author describes the translation task and briefly introduces its main content and text characteristics.Chapter two describes three phases of the project implementation process that are specific ar-rangements before translation, proceeding and post-proofreading.In chapter three, the author briefly introduces the Newmark’s text typology theory and its guidance on patent documentation translation. From aspects of vocabularies, syntax and stylistic features of this project, the author conducts a detailed analysis on translation methods of those examples.Chapter four is a conclusion part in which the author concludes gains and limitations from this translation project. In this translation practice report, the author analyzes translation methods of patent documentation combining with text examples under the guidance of Newmark’ s text ty-pology theory. The author believes that Newmark’s text typology theory provides useful guidance for C-E patent documentation and hopes that this report can make a reference for patent translators so as to continuously optimize and enhance the translation quality of this kind of text. |
