A Report On E-C Translation Of "Chiropractic And Health Care"

This report is a translation project report on the E-C translation of 'Chiropractic and Health Care',a task designated by the translation company where I worked as an intern.The original text is compiled by chiropractors and the text is mainly related to chiropractic and health care.The target text shall be posted on the company website or on the display window.The translator is expected to translate the text faithfully.The target text is to inform the readers of the benefits of chiropractic and health care and to persuade them to open their mind to recognize chiropractic as a scientific treatment.Skopos theory can function well in medical text translation.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the translator has acquired a deep understanding of the source text,read large numbers of parallel texts,conducted an in-depth analysis of the features of the source text,identified the differences between English and Chinese,and applied certain translation strategies and methods to achieve effective translation.The original text includes many technical terms as well as some long complex sentences.Even some short simple sentences are also rich in meaning.The target readers of this text are people who are interested in chiropractic and health care or those suffering from spinal problems.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,this report_presented the problems in the translation task and proposed translation strategies from the syntactic and lexical levels.To be more specific,the present author has illustrated the problems encountered in the translation project and the strategies that have been adopted in the translation process from both the syntactic level and the lexical level with considerable examples.Finally,the author summarized the shortcomings of the work and lessons that have been learned from the translation project.
