Along with the growing global influence,China has experienced an enormous development of the tourism industry, which in turn exerts a great impact on the development of economy. Therefore, translated texts of high quality are in great need for Chinese tourism colleagues and hoteliers to familiarize themselves with western tourism and hotel industry. The primary function of business texts is to deliver effective information to readers. To help employees of Chinese tourism better understand the translated texts, the specific purpose and function of the source texts should be placed in the first place, rather than its exact format. Thus, the translator needs to guarantee not only an accurate translation, but also the coherence of expression due to the differences between English and Chinese. In this translation practice,Chapter Six of Are You an Ostrich or a Llama, written by Larry Mogelonsky,is translated from English to Chinese, thereby forming the translation report with Skopostheorie as theoretical basis and some translation case studies as examples. This translation report is mainly composed of four chapters besides introduction and conclusion part. The first chapter is a brief analysis of the source text, the author and its distinct features. The second chapter introduces the translation process, including preparation before translation and different translation periods. The third chapter touches on the theoretical basis of the translation report, mainly introducing three principles of Skopostheorie and its feasibility in business translation. The fourth chapter, which is the key part of this report, uses a large number of examples to illustrate the application of three rules of Skopostheorie in translating business texts. To better realize the communicative function of the translated text, the translator shall adopt different translation techniques according to the specific circumstances. After finishing this translation practice and analysis of specific cases, the translator realized that full preparation at early-stage and proper translation techniques adopted are of great significance for achieving the translation purpose. Thus,it is recommended that translators should have a good grasp of the background so as to have a better understanding of the source text and avoid unnecessary misinterpretations.Furthermore, different translation techniques and methods shall be adopted depending on different target readers.
