A Study On The English Version Of The 2016 Report On The Work Of The Government Based On The Hybridity Perspective

As the comprehensive national strength enhances gradually,“Chinese Culture Going Global” follows the irresistible trend to tell “Chinese Story” fairly,which becomes the historical mission for translators.The annual Report on the Work of the Government attracts great attention from the world for it covers the significant current political affairs.It is the urgent task to convey the authoritative policies from Chinese government and the Party to the world and increase the charming of the current political affairs through exploring these Reports from Premier over the years.Characterized with seriousness,authoritativeness and strong political nature,Report on the Work of the Government,as a crucial political text,becomes the significant channel for the international community to understand more about China.However,the results are not good enough and there is a good gap to tell “Chinese Story” well although significance is attached to the international publicity.After analyzing the Report,the translated versions and other related articles as well,this paper finds that hybridity phenomenon exists in language and culture level,and it means translated text contains language and culture features from both source text and target text,preserving Chinese political elements and obtaining good acceptance.However,there are not so many studies on Reports from perspective of hybridity.Therefore,this paper applies hybridity to analyze 2016 Report on the Work of the Government,explains the hybridity phenomenon,and summarize hybridity approaches in translating political texts,which contributes to telling Chinese story characterized with current political affairs.Based on the 2016 Report on the Work of the Government by Premier Li Keqiang,this paper,mainly adopting the qualitative analysis method,intends to analyze the words,terms and sentences in terms of foreignness to explore how the cultural hybridity is achieved.Both the language hybridity and culture hybridity are supplementary to each other through typical culturally-loaded words,terms and writing style,generating the cultural hybridity.Based on studies above,this paper provides suggestions on latter translation of Report on the Work of the Government.The translated version should focus on constructing Chinese discourse power with accurate transmission of text meaning as priority in terms of the translation of culturally-loaded words and neologism with current political characteristics.Meanwhile,features of target language text and readers' needs should be considered,choosing proper balance between source text and target text and avoiding overloaded foreignization to affect transmission effects and overloaded domestication to lose unique Chinese elements.Therefore,it is necessary to conduct researches on the English version of Report on the Work of the Government,broadens the research angle of the current political text,enriches the translation strategies,methods and techniques and promotes the current political text globally.Although there spring up translation studies from hybridity,there are lack of sufficient references and related studies on translated version of Report on the Work of the Government.Therefore,there exists space for further improvements and the writer will continue further studies.This paper includes the following parts:The introduction part introduces the research background,significance and structure of the paper.Chapter One introduces the study situation about the theory at home and abroad and explains detailed researches on Report on the Work of the Government from linguistic perspective and non-linguistic perspective.Chapter Two concretely analyzes the hybridity perspective and its study angles in translation,dividing into domestication-oriented type and foreignization-oriented type,language level and culture level.Chapter Three analyzes the characteristics in language and content and functions of informativity and publicity of source text.Chapter Four conducts the case analysis on the translated version from the hybridity angle in terms of word,phrase and sentence,presenting suggestions on translating culturally-loaded words and neologism with hybridity approach.The conclusion part makes the summary on the paper and points out its limitations and suggestions.
