With the development of industrialization and urbanization,an increasing number of land projects have been implemented in China. An important one is land consolidation. Both the need and the number of research of land consolidation are increasing in home and abroad. Thus choosing the text of land science to translate goes in line with both the current trend and the social need. This report is based on an E-C translation of Agreement Based Land Consolidation– In Perspective of New Modes of Governance, which was published on Land Use Policy by Elsevier. The source text is a research article of Niels Otto Haldrup,a professor of Aarhus University,Denmark. The translation is both an experience-sharing from Denmark and a guidance to China. What's more, land science is not a popular field for translation, not to mentioning the number of translation study in this field.Under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory, the translator not only provides translation and analysis to this field, but also gains experience for personal future career. The translation process was well-planned.When analyzing source text before this task, the translator paid attention to the features of terminology, syntax, text and genre, which were used as a reference for further translation. The translator consciously used Nida's theory as a guidance, and excerpted examples of lexical, syntactic, textual and stylistic equivalence from the source text and reflect on translation thoughts. In the end, five translation strategies were concluded according to the parallel comparison and contrast among the final version, the first draft and the source text. From this translation practice, two enlightenment could be concluded.First,Nida's theory is suitable in translating practical texts.Land science articles are mostly practical texts, which takes content as the priority.Similarly,Nida notes that translators should break the limitation of form, try to get lexical, syntactical, textual and stylistic equivalence, and take the feeling of target readers into consideration. To sum up,aims of the text and the theory are the same, which could contribute to each other.Second, when translating practical texts,it is far from necessity to get a literal understanding of the source text. The translator should have a comprehensive understanding of background knowledge,cross-cultural communication, and the way to use translation theory so as to faithfully convey the content in the source language.
