A Report On Consecutive Interpreting Of Welcoming Ceremony On The "2016 Fashion System Design" Academic Conference

This thesis is written in the form of interpretation practice report based on the author's consecutive interpretation,including Chinese-English and English-Chinese,(hereafter CI,C-E and E-C)practice of the welcoming ceremony for "2016 Fashion System Design" academic conference.The content of this interpretation practice is the international academic communicative conference sponsored by Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology from May 24th to May 28th in 2016.The author of this report is in charge of the consecutive interpretation task for the Prof.Arturo Dell'acqua Bellavitis,dean of the School of Design from Milan Polytechnic University,who was invited to a four-day academic exchange program at the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology.This report described the interpretation process of this interpretation task,emphatically analyzed the preparation phase and execution phase,besides,evaluated all types of interpretation problems and the on-site C-E E-C Cl quality in the course of this interpretation practice.The report selected a large amount of on-site cases to further analysis and come up with corresponding interpreting strategies and solutions.The interpretation strategies are the most frequently applied during this interpretation practice,namely,simplification,linear interpretation and information reformulation.Simplification refers to omit the repeated and redundant information,making the interpretation more implicit and clearer.Linear interpretation follows the flow of the source language without changing the original order.When dealing with the long and complex sentences,information reformulation can be used to relocate the order or the information of the source input without affecting the original meaning,making the loose or complex relations more logical and clearer to the listeners.In the aspect of errors and deficiencies,the interpreter mainly analyzes the common phenomena of pretermission,misinterpretation,inappropriate pauses,and the English with Italian accent.Pretermission is the information loss.Misinterpretation happens when the interpreter misunderstanding the meaning.When the understanding of source languages is deviated,misinterpretation happens.Lack of experiences and limitations in listening comprehension result in improper pauses,and the speaker's English with Italian accent also causes insufficient understanding.Through exercise and training,these mistakes can be avoided to some degree.Through the task description and analysis,some conclusions can be drawn.It further proves that the pre-preparation of interpretation plays an essential-efficient role to a successful interpreting;the improvement of listening comprehension and effective note taking depends far more on the input source's sense group;based on maintaining the original meaning of the source language,the interpretation should be delivered by using ideological target language;making the contingency plan in advance is crucial to cope with the challenges that the interpreter has to encounter in the interpreting settings.
