With the rapid developments of science, technology and culture, the contact and cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world is enhanced. In order to maximize the cultural exchange,Chinese and foreign stories circulate more and more widely. The original text of this translation project consists of the first twelve chapters of Kokopelli the Wanderer written by Ayal Hurst. The author envisions a benign world where people and animals work side by side,in equal partnership, and in mutual respect.Kokopel'li is the mythical,flute-playing deity of the Desert Southwest in America, who has been venerated by some Native American cultures in the Southwestern United States. But currently the novel is available in English only, and Chinese version is not found. The translator puts it into Chinese so that the Chinese people who do not speak English are able to know about American children's literature and get some idea about the native culture on that piece of land. The translator plans to study American myth language style, sums up the difficulties encountered in the process of translation and solution strategies through this practice. The myth tale is beautifully and humorously written, which involves bio-science knowledge and local folk customs. On that account, the translator has read a large number of parallel texts and used the network to check out related biological knowledge and to learn about native American culture. To produce an adequate Chinese version, the translator studies aspects of the language features, including glossary and syntax. The translator depends on Skopos Theory as her guiding principle in doing this translation.Difficulties are summed up in the report, and such methods as amplification and omission are used with the guidance of the translation theory. The translator uses computer-aided translation tools in the process of translation, such as Qingyun online translation. Finally the unresolved problems are listed in the translation practice and the experience and lessons are summarized.Through this translation practice, the translator explores the feature of English myth tale, sums up and discusses the difficulties and solutions in the translation process. The translator has generalized the characteristic and the translation strategy of myth tale, hoping to provide certain reference to other scholars and translators in this field.
