The popular science texts play an important role in spreading scientific information to the public.Its significance increases with the rapid development of science and technology and globalization.However,researches on popular science translation are still insufficient in spite of the large number of popular science translation works.This report is written to provide a reference to the research in this field.This report is based on two genetic articles from American science magazine Nautilus.The first one entitled What Both the Left and Right Get Wrong About Race aims to point out wrong notions of the left and right about races by comparing each race' genes.The other one entitled Why Evolution Is Ageist makes an argument on the relationship between mutation and aging.The articles are relatively significant for research and practice since they are highly professional and they have plenty of terms and long and difficult sentences.Since popular science texts are mainly written in an understandable and straightforward form to transfer scientific information to the public,the report indicates that translators should take information equivalence as the principle when translating this type of texts,and information equivalence should consist of the equivalence in semantic information,background information and stylistic information.The specific methods include adding annotations of terms to realize background information equivalence,applying contextual meaning to realize semantic information equivalence and transforming nominalized structures into verb-object or subject-predicate structures and dividing long and difficult sentences to realize stylistic information equivalence.
