The rapid development of science and technology helps to facilitate the increasingly frequent exchanges between China and the world.Under such circumstances,the translation of English for science and technology(EST)has gained more importance both in practice and in research.However,the quality of EST translations remains less satisfactory,which hinders the international exchanges in this field to a certain extent.Accordingly,it is of great significance to improve the quality of EST text translation to promote the progress of science,technology and social development in China.In light of the above situation,this translation report,by accomplishing a translation project of Chapter Five in Group Therapy with Children: Psychodrama with Children,aims to generalize some useful translation methods to solve the typical problems encountered in the translation process and to further improve the quality of EST text translation.Group Therapy with Children : Psychodrama with Children belongs to psychological science and technology text type.Chapter Five of the book,with a total of 12,582 words,introduces the complete group process of psychodrama with children.It is an English version published in 2017 of Alfons Aichinger and Walter Holl’s first German book,which enjoys great academic value.There has been no Chinese version till now.Therefore,its Chinese version will be of great significance in treating children with mental problems and in promoting the progress of psychodrama and psychotherapy in China.The report will first introduce the translation task,then describe the translation process and conduct the case analysis and finally draw a conclusion.To guarantee the efficiency and quality of the translation project,the translator follows a set of procedures during the translation process,which include pre-translation stage,while-translation stage and post-translation stage.At the pre-translation stage,the translator comprehends the ST accurately and prepares some parallel texts,translation tools and related knowledge.At the while-translation stage,the translator completes thetranslation task on time through the development of translation plans and the solution of translation difficulties.At the post-translation stage,the translator conducts quality control by proofreading and polishing the translation.In the case analysis,the translator locates the typical translation problems and explores their solutions at the lexical level,the syntactic level and the textual level respectively.On the lexical level,the methods of amplification and omission and other methods are employed in order to determine the meaning of polysemous words;on the syntactic level,the methods of division,inversion and conversion are adopted in order to deal with long sentences in E-C translation;on the textual level,the methods of reference and substitution are used in order to achieve semantic coherence in the Chinese version.The project is of some practical value.For one thing,the text translated in the project might help to promote the development in the field of psychodrama and psychotherapy in China;for another thing,this project might shed some light on how to translate such text types for future translators as it provides concrete instances and translation methods in addressing some typical problems in the translation process.
