With the advancement of society and the progress of science and technology,China has stridden onto the international stage and its comprehensive national strength has grown significantly,which present higher demand for the quality of English for Science and Technology Translation.Meanwhile,with the rapid development of our marine industry,Maritime English Translation plays more and more important roles.To further integrate into the world,it is of significance to make an intensive study on English for Science and Technology Translation.With the reference to the examples of some chapters of the original book U.S.Navy Diving Manual,this report illustrates the Omission method under the guide of Skopos Theory and makes an analysis on the typical translation cases from three aspects,including Syntactic,Semantics and avoiding Omission.Five parts are included in this report.The first part states the aim and significance of the study and the specific process.Part Two illustrates the translation task which includes its background,text analysis,the standard of material choice,and translation tools and reference materials,as well as translation schedule and structure arrangement.The third part introduces the origin and three rules of Skopos Theory,that is,Skopo rule,fidelity rule and coherence rule.The fourth part analyzes the typical cases in which the Omission method is applied in the translation of U.S.Navy Diving Manual,namely Chapter Three,Four,Five and Seventeen under the guide of Skopos Theory.The last part summarizes the whole report and appeals to focus on the study on the Omission method in English for Science and Technology translation.
