Of Woman Born:Motherhood as Experience and Institution is the masterpiece of Adrienne Rich. The book reflects the social status of women at that time.It shows that under the patriarchal society and heterosexual institution, women,to a large degree, not only lose their right to speak, but also gradually lose their thoughts and self-consciousness.From all aspects of women's life and private personal space, this book discusses the state of women's life and mind.Reviewing the project report, the author chooses part of the book to analyse the specific problems in translation, and finds out the solutions.According to the style of the translation materials and the translation purposes, the author chooses Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory to guide the translation project. In the process of translation, attention is paid to the transmission of the original information to the target language readers.Under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory, the methods such as literal translation, liberal translation, amplification and conversion are adopted to realize the functional equivalence between the source text and the target text. Finally, the author comes to the conclusion that a good translation should be well prepared.A great deal of data should be collected and the background of the original text should be understood. The translation work should be carried out in cooperation with exchange of ideas.Solid bilingual skills and rich experience in translation are also needed.
