This paper is a report on the translation of book about female communication.Source text is the second chapter of You're the Only One I Can Tell: Inside the Language of Women' s Friendships.The author of this chapter is Deborah Tannen.The text introduces the characteristics of female communication in detail,analyzes the causes of many troubles and gives a lot of practical examples in life.According to the translator's search results,there is no Chinese version so far.Therefore,according to the communicative translation theory,the translator translates the original text into Chinese and uses corresponding translation methods and techniques for the difficulties and problems encountered in the process of translating.There are five parts in this report.The first chapter briefly introduces the background,significance and main purpose as well as structure of the translation project.The second chapter mainly introduces the source text,including the text author,the text content and the language characteristic of the text.The third chapter specifically describes the guiding theory and its application in translation project.In the fourth chapter,the translator points out the difficulties encountered in the process of translating and the corresponding solutions.Considering that the original text classified into informative text,the translator takes Peter Newmark' s “communicative translation” as the theoretical guidance and analyzes it with concrete translation examples.The fifth chapter summarizes the experiences and difficulties to be solved in the process of translating.
