A Report On The English To Chinese Translation Of A Medical Decision Support System For Disease Diagnosis Under Uncertainty

This report is based on the translation of “A medical decision support system for disease diagnosis under uncertainty”,which comes from the international academic journal Expert Systems With Applications that belongs to Elsevier(one of the largest medical and scientific academic press in the world).In this thesis,researchers use renal disease diagnosis as a case study,compare and verify experiment results of the symptoms expressed by various patients with uncertain language values and numerical values,and then propose a decision support system(DSS)modeled by the medical diagnosis fuzzy expert system(FES)to help doctors make better diagnosis decisions.Under the guidance of Vermeer's Skopos theory,this report ascertains the translation purpose first and then determines related translation strategies and methods.In the process of translation,the author proceeds from specific vocabulary terms and sentences,discusses the stylistic features of medical English in the form of case analysis,and proposes skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule as three principles that should be followed in English to Chinese translation.According to the analysis,main difficulties are found in technical terms,passive sentences and long sentences.Therefore,the author strives to keep the style of the original text while ensuring the translated version to be normal and readable on the basis of faithfulness and objectiveness,so that prospective translating effect and purpose could be achieved.This report is expected to provide a reference for the research in the related fields.
