An Analyzation On ‘prepositional Objective Phrases And Dummy Verbs' And Its Mental Mechanism

Dummy verbs is a syntactic type which belongs to the closed class and it has some fewer members.However,there is a complicated language unit structure which is formed from the dummy verb.So,the definition and instruction of it can not be confirmed.I analyze the structure of ‘ prepositional objective phrases and formal verbs ' in terms of some researches from predecessors.And I hope that I can make progress in the description and interpretation of dummy verbs.This thesis uses the survey method and the corpus method to avoid the incomplete coincidental results which are from your own limited language sense and corpus.During the research,I used the method of repeated argument.First,I set a range of dummy verbs,and analyze its characters initially.And then,using the results to the test that other verbs can become the dummy verb,so we can redefine the range of dummy verbs.According to the analysis of the language sense,in the structure of ‘ prepositional objective phrases and formal verbs',I can make a conclusion that the exist of dummy verbs relate to the structure of notional verbs,the relationship between notional verbs and objects in the prepositional objective phrases.According to the different analysis of all kinds of prepositions from different type of dummy verbs,I can make a conclusion that the notional verbs behind‘jiayi'‘yuyi'‘jiyu'and‘geiyi'are not pun.According to the example analysis of different dummy verbs and prepositions,I made a conclusion that the structure of‘prepositional objective phrases and formal verbs' would be different because of the different prepositions and dummy verbs,and it would be a continuous change.The thesis analyzes most of corpus,and gets three type of actions of pragmatic function and mental mechanism about using dummy verbs in spoken language: first is attract attention mechanism,second is mental delay mechanism,and the third is mental euphemistic mechanism.On the other words,it caters the Chinese user to emphasize the mental euphemistic,and it is a buffer for hard tone in notional verbs.
