Mandarin Chinese has been formally listed as one of the British National Curriculum in the General Certificate of Secondary Education(called the GCSE)examination system in the most recent 3 years.As currently the most mainstreamed Chinese language test in the United Kingdom,the GCSE Chinese still gets loads of difference between the worldwide popular Chinese exam called new HSK(fully named Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi)and especially in the vocabulary design.For helping new teachers to understand the words range and the difficulties in GCSE Chinese and also the connections between GCSE Chinese and HSK,this essay will firstly get to know about the GCSE Chinese vocabulary system.And then,to combine the vocabulary list in three Jinbu textbooks and to set a new GCSE Chinese vocabulary sheet.On behalf of the new designed vocab list,it is aimed to analyse the difference in vocabulary list's designing ideas,vocabulary items,ways of testing and teaching methods between GCSE Chinese and the new HSK.And also to help the candidates to exchange the marks or language levels between the GCSE Chinese and HSK.The paper is divided into three parts,as follows:The first part is a general introduction,including the current status of Chinese teaching in the UK,the importance of GCSE Chinese exams,and the basic settings for examinations.It also explains the starting point of this study and the basic research ideas.The second part is mainly about GCSE Chinese vocabulary research.Firstly,it combines the sequence of word compilations of supporting materials and reorganizes the original GCSE vocabulary,including de-duplication,rearrangement and difficulty gradients,and a new table.Then,based on this,we will study its relevant data,propose teaching suggestions,and propose improvements to the GCSE vocabulary.The third part is to study the GCSE and its related parts by combining with the HSK vocabulary.The GCSE vocabulary covered in the new HSK vocabulary is firstly sorted,graded and contrasted to provide suggestions for the vocabulary design of the intermediate stage Chinese teaching.
