| South China Sea islands are the inalienable part of the Chinese territory, which was first discovered and exploited by China. And China’s sovereignty of them has not been disputable for a very long time. With the discovery and exploitation of the resources in the islands, China’s neighboring countries have been asking for its sovereignty one after another, and have occupied some of them using military forces, plundering various resources, thus causing the intense situation there. Our Chinese government takes restrained attitude toward it, holding the principle of exploiting the resources together while shelving the disputes. Our government also took effective diplomatic and negotiating methods, achieving the fully communication between all sides, and eventually making the intension assuaged. But we should not overlook the fact that the South China Sea dispute is becoming more and more international. Boosting abundant resources and key strategic position, the South China Sea is the important international sea passage. In view of the economic, politic and military significance, some powers outside of the area have intervened in the disputes in a direct or indirect way, with the United States as the prominent one.My essay has four chapters. My essay firstly introduces the evolution of the South China Sea issue.Exactly;there is no dispute at South China Sea area before 1970s. After 1970, as the development of the international situation and the time, the dispute appears and develops. Then I tell the causes and present situation. The second chapter introduces the history of America’s interposition in South China Sea area, the causes and ways of America’s interposition. The third chapter analyses the influence of America’s interposition on China and the south-east countries, especially the countries that have dispute with China on the South China Sea area. America’s policy towards the disputes has made negative effect on China’s rights and interests, indulging the Southeast Asian countries’ambitions of invading and occupying the South China Sea islands, and increasing the intension, thus increasing the disputable focuses between China and America. The fourth chapter of my essay will tell the importance of the South China Sea in our national interests, and then give some suggestion on our country’s policy towards the USA. China must make a further explicit declaration that the South China Sea islands are under the sovereignty of Chinese government. We should lead the United States to actively participate in the cooperation and exploitation in the South China Sea area, avoiding the linkage between the resumption of the sovereignty of the South China Sea islands and the effort of making it Chinese inland lake. And we also should avoid the direct confrontation against America, but try to safeguard the sovereignty through the joint efforts with Taiwan, eliminating the negative effect in the area caused by America. |
