An Empirical Study On The Impact Of Social Capital On The Community Democratic Election In New Rural Community

The right to vote is an important political right conferred on the citizens by the Constitution,and it is also the source of legal principles for citizens to part icipate in state management and social governance.With the implementation of t he national urbanization strategy and the equalization of public services,a large number of new rural communities have emerged,strengthened the participation of democratic elections in new rural areas is an important part of rural grass-roots democracy,and it is also the most extensive practice of China's socialist democ racy at the grassroots level.The new rural community residents exercise the dem ocratic power,participation in grass-roots democratic management and expression of political will by participating in the election.Citizen living in the society and citizen participation is the result of sociali zation,Social capital factors such as living environment,social network and inter personal relationship will affect citizen's daily participation behavior,social capita l as an important non-institutional factors and social intangible resources is closel y related to the behavior of citizen's election participation,and produce a profou nd impact on the behavior of citizen participation in elections.New rural commu nity is formed by the merger of several administrative villages or in reconstructi on of new communities,the new living environment,living conditions and the r esulting interpersonal relationships and social networks can be different from the traditional rural villagers living conditions,These different aspects of rural new c ommunity decides the different social capital stock and structure.Based on this,this study is different from the traditional study of participating election in rural residents.According to the new characteristic of new rural Social community's social capital,we can divided into six types: kinship network,friendsnetwork,neighbo rs network,general trust,special trust and community norms.Those different ty pes of social capital covers the traditional blood,and the modern social capital a ttached to the geography of the new community.Community democratic election c an be divided into nomination,expression,election and strike four dimensions,c overing the entire process of the election.The paper aims to study the relationsh ip between the social capital of the new rural community and participation of de mocratic election in the community,whether it will promote the participation of democratic election in the community,and whether there are factors that impede the participation of the election.The special hypothesis of this paper are that kinship network,friend network,ne ighbor network,general trust,special trust,as well as social norms is significant ly positive related to nomination,election and expression,is significantly negativ e related to strike.In this paper,based on the existing research and the formation of the releva nt theoretical basis of the initial questionnaire,some improper items are deleted i n accordance with the results of small-scale interviews and pre-test.Thus the fin al scales are finished.Data were collected from a number of new rural communi ties in Ningbo,Zhejiang Province.The results of quantitative analysis show that the network of friends,neighbors and community norms are validated for the fou r dimensions of the election.The kinship network only has significant influence on the nomination,but has no significant influence on the other three dimension s.The relationship between the general trust and nomination?election?strike is verified,but there is no relation to the expression.The special trust has significa nt relationship to the nomination and election of election participation,but has n o influence on the expression and strike.Based on the findings,the paper puts f orward some feasible solutions to promote the enthusiasm of the community's de mocratic election: Strengthen the community resident's social exchanges and culti vate more volunteer organizations to further consolidate and broaden the network of friends?further enhance the social capital of neighborhood networks and cons tantly strengthen the "neighborhood effect" on the election behaviors,shaping the universal interpersonal trust,Increasethe psychological involvement of the electio nparticipation?actively create a community atmosphere of mutual cooperation and form the spiritual community of community participation,transformation and opt imization of traditional blood-based social capital,enhance network size and heter ogeneity.The innovation of this paper lies in the selection of the new rural communi ty,through analysis the relationship between the new rural community social cap ital and community democratic participation help us better analysis and grasp the factors affecting the democratic participation of new rural communities from the microscopic,also contribute to the social forces and non-institutional factors into the study,which overcome the limitations of traditional institutional factors and social macro-environment perspective to study of social individuals and election participation,meanwhile it also let us have an better understanding of the social t rust?relationships?network development and changes in grass-roots under the ne w urbanization and the special theoretical value to the democratic construction.
