In recent 10 years, as the scale of higher education expands in our country, the number of graduates from colleges and universities has been gradually increasing. The employment of graduates becomes a more severe problem, and the employment rate decreases persistently.It has arouse a wide concern among the public.Both in China and abroad, scholars in different fields analyse the reasons about this problem from different perspectives,and come up with corresponding solutions.This thesis are based on former researches, taking social capital theory as the research perspective.We conducted in-depth interviews with 22 graduates who just finished university in Shaoxing's Z district, Zhejiang province,and analysed the operation space and strategies for the social capital,together with the operation efficiency and limitation in the process of graduates' job-hunting. There are five parts in this thesis.The first part is introduction.In this part,the author sorts the literature which are involved with the graduates and the social capital. Then the author comes up with the problems about the research and the specification of it.The second part is the operation space for the social capital.The author find that the social capital is not almighty actually after sorting the literature. That means it cannot operate anywhere or anytime.Only when the information about employment is considerable and hard to collect,as well as the correlative system is incomplete, can it operate.The third part is about the operation process of the social capital and strategies for it.In this part, the author divides the process of graduates' job-hunting into three phases,which are employment information acquisition phase, employment opportunities obtaining phase,employment status improving phase.By interviewing the interviewees,we understand, analyse and compare various operation conditions of social capital in different phases.Then we conclude that graduates usually use "selective construction of social relations network strategy","non-equivalent mutual strategy of the social capital","self-value adding strategy of social capital".The forth part is how social capital influences graduates' employment. The author finds that it has double effect.On the one hand, the operation of the social capital plays an important role in the process of graduates' job-hunting. Firstly,it can increase the quantity of employment information.Secondly,it can help graduates obtain the information of employment ahead of time.Thirdly,it can increase the success rate of employment. Lastly,it can improve the quality of employment.On the other hand,however,it can't achieve expectant effect without social capital,which means that it has some limitations.The fifth part is the conclusion.In this part,the author make a summary of the whole thesis on the basis of the former parts at first.Then the author puts forward the deficiencies of the thesis.
