The quality of higher education has been the focus of attention in the social from all walks of life in our country. In recent years, as an important part of the higher education quality assurance measures, various forms of teaching evaluation and the survey of learning have been popular, but there has been little study basing on classroom observation to describe and analyze undergraduate classroom teaching. While to reveal the true state of undergraduate classroom teaching through actual observation of researchers, and to put forward some countermeasures and suggestions to improve the undergraduate classroom teaching, will have important the theory significance and the practical significance to improve the quality of higher education.This research takes xx university as an example, using the self-made observation scale for classroom teaching. This study selected 73 classes from junior of four classes of college, that is the liberal arts college, science college, engineering college and management college, and the final effective number of classroom observation is 69. According to the observation data analysis, from an overall point of view, the xx university teachers’ teaching in the classroom teaching is in the high level and students’ learning in the overall is in the low level. From four dimensions of teachers’ professional title, curriculum type, subject type and the class size, four dimensions there are different degrees of impact on the undergraduate classroom teaching. On the whole, xx university undergraduate classroom teaching has its advantages as well as disadvantages. For example, language and nonlanguage are used properly; the teachers have easy-going character, serious teaching attitude, accurate and clear teaching. But xx university undergraduate classroom teaching exists single teaching method, lack of teacher-student interaction; ineffective use of teaching media and means; boring teaching content; students’ lack of classroom learning initiative; poor teaching effect of low grade teachers; poor classroom discipline in the liberal arts class and poor teaching effect in large class. In view of the above problems, to improve classroom teaching and to improve the quality of undergraduate classroom teaching in xx university, the measures are needed: using flexible teaching methods; using flexible teaching media and means; increasing life and frontier discipline of teaching content; to encourage students to learn actively; strengthening low grade teachers’ training and learning; strengthening liberal arts classroom management; arranging the class size reasonably.
